Engineering Day at the Mall: Saturday Feb. 16, 2002
To kick off National Engineering Week, the Cornell ASCE participated once again in the annual Engineering Day at the Pyramid Mall. This year we had three exhibits for kids and adults to play with:
Tinker-toys (to illustrate structural stability concepts)

A Rollercoaster (an example of dynamic loading on a truss structure)

and an automated water treatment plant (real-time data analysis and proces modeling)

Robbyn and Raph's Bud, who watched the rollercoaster for an hour.

No Steve, its not a ladder... (Steve is a volunteer fireman, he climbs ladders all the time)

Ezra points to his woodpecker, while Robbyn stares, awestruck.

Ezra's Woodpecker

Raphael, Robbyn, Chris, and Steve with the Magical Rainbow Ferris Wheel of Fun

The Tower that touched the roof

Chris and Steve explain finite element analysis to attentive youngsters
Special thanks goes out to the Ithaca Science Center for the tinkertoys, Prof. Ken Hover for the Rollercoaster, and Prof. Monroe Weber-Shirk for the water treatment plant
Thanks also to Christy, Rick, Joanna, Chris, Rob, Melissa Pa., Robbyn, Raphael, Drew, Steve, Mel. Po. and everybody else who helped make this day a success.
